Which Meyer Snow Plow Is Best For RAM 1500 Plowing Gravel Road On Farm?

Question:

I’ve got a Ram 1500 and a long gravel lane to the barn. Which Meyer plow would handle that best?

Denise, the HomePlow # ME53FR with full hydraulics is tailor-made for that kind of setup - more lift power and smoother angling for longer passes. If you’d rather keep it simpler, the electric # ME88FR works great too at a more budget-friendly price.

Both mount to a 2" front receiver. For a half-ton like yours, I suggest adding front suspension helpers to keep the truck level when the plow’s raised. You can find those, along with the proper receiver-and-plow combo, in our FitGuide.

How long’s your gravel road?

Thanks, Andrew. Do I need the snow shoes too for gravel, or will the hydraulic float handle that?

@Denise If you’re on gravel, the snow-shoe kit # ME94FR is worth adding to the # ME53FR. It lifts the blade about an inch so you’re pushing snow, not stone. The hydraulic float handles grade changes, but the shoes protect the cutting edge and surface. If you go with the # ME88FR you'd instead need shoe kit # ME74FR.

@AndrewN Any issue running the ME53FR off-road on unpaved farm lanes? I do have the snow shoes already.

@Tom Not at all, Tom. The HomePlow # ME53FR is light enough for unpaved lanes; just keep speeds low (under 10 mph transport / 5 mph plowing per Meyer’s manual) and set the shoes slightly higher for rough ground.
