Do I Still Need To Winterize Travel Trailer When Sitting During Winter In Florida?

Published 10/20/2025

Question:

I’m in Florida but still want to winterize my travel trailer when it sits for months. Do I even need antifreeze down here?

Karen, probably not unless temps dip below freezing for extended stretches. But a light flush with the –50°F # PG56ZR gives inexpensive protection and keeps your lines from freezing if your rig sits unused.

If you also want to keep your seals and fittings conditioned, the glycerin-free # PG36ZR is the better choice. It is alcohol-free and does a nicer job protecting rubber components during storage, so I recommend using this in a light mixture.

If you decide not to go this route, at minimum I would drain and clean/disinfect all plumbing and systems each season.

Do you store under cover or out in the open?

It’s stored outside under a metal carport, so it still gets pretty warm and humid. Would using the glycerin-free mix help with that too, or is that just for cold protection?

@Karen That’s a great follow-up, Karen; the glycerin-free # PG36ZR mainly protects against freeze damage, but it also helps with off-season moisture and corrosion. Even in Florida’s humidity, it leaves a thin film that keeps metal fittings from oxidizing and seals from drying out. Since your trailer’s outside under a carport, that little bit of internal coating is a bonus. Just run it lightly through your lines and pump - you don’t have to fill the whole system.
