Question:
I am looking to install the RED44FR in my 2021 BMW X5 45e Plug-in Hybrid with a Factory Tow Package installed. The Tow Package installed electronic brake controller connection port is a 4 pin female connector located under the drivers side dash top left of the brake pedal. I have verified that there is battery power to this female connector for powering a to be connected electric brake controller, and when the brake pedal is pressed - it is being sensed and +DC power is being measured on the brake sense pin which would be going to the controller. I also verified the female connectors blue wire trailer brake control line runs appropriately back to the trailer hitch 7 pin connector pin 2. It seems my installed tow package and 4 pin electric brake controller connector is ready for mating up to Redarc44FR controller pigtail wiring. However, heres my question - I am measuring just over +14V battery power at the female connectors output pin to the controller vice a typical expected around +12V. Is or would this higher measured +14V battery power be an issue? Specs indicate that the Redarc44FR is rated for both 12V and 24V. So, Im hoping it will be not issue. Do you see any issue using and connecting this controller to my X5 tow package with input power running around +14V battery power to the controller module Im assuming the slightly higher +14V battery power is due to my X5 being a electric hybrid and thus battery power is running a bit higher. As far as connecting up the Redarc44FR to my female controller connection port... I have researched, found, ordered, and received a matching 4-pin male mating connector ESC Tuning Part 999 652 758 40 and 4 Circular Contact wireable connector pins ESC Tuning part 611331376193 for wiring and connecting to the RED44FR controller wired pigtail connection. So it looks like this Redarc44FR will match up and work with my 2021 BMW X5. I just want to get a etrailer expert opinion to confirm the Redarc44FR will in faact fit my vehicle before I order it up. Thanks

Hey Wayne, thanks for all of your research and the information you provided!
Yes, the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR will work perfectly fine with the 14V you're measuring on your 2021 BMW X5. In fact, the 14V you're seeing is normal to see that close to the battery, even on non-hybrid vehicles.
I wasn't able to pull up both of the parts you referenced from ESC but you've done so much research already that I'm trusting you found the correct parts for your vehicle. We have the Kits # TK29FR and # 331-TPH-017 that can be used for a plug-and-play installation if you prefer that method instead of splicing your wiring together.
The Tow-Pro Elite is one of my top favorite brake controllers! What was the thing that drew you to it?
