Question:

Can the HU74ZR booster for 50 amp rigs be mounted flat on its back? I’ve got limited space in my electrical bay.

Steve, you’re right to ask. The Watchdog Power Center Surge Protector for RVs and campers # HU74ZR should never be mounted on its back. It’s designed to rest on its legs in the upright position so the ventilation slots can do their job. If it’s laid flat, airflow is blocked and there’s a real chance of overheating - the unit will even shut itself down if internal temps climb past 165°.

Also, this unit is meant to sit outside near the power pedestal, then your rv plug runs outside to connect to the surge protector's output connection. No hardwiring necessary and no way to install it in a compartment like you're talking about. If you want a permanent one, you'll need to hardwire something like the # HU72VR 30A.
