Using MouseBlocker Electronic Pest Control In A Hybrid Vehicle - Prius

Updated 12/31/2025 | Published 09/22/2025

Question:

I’ve heard hybrids are mouse magnets because of all the wiring. Would the MouseBlocker Classic MB44FR work in a 2022 Toyota Prius? I've had mice get into the engine bay of my truck, and I certainly don't want them in the expensive hybrid setup of the prius!

Dave, you’re right - hybrids and EVs can be prime targets because of their quiet engine bays. The Classic # MB44FR is a great choice for a Prius; it wires directly to the 12V system. And yes, even hybrids have a 12V auxiliary battery. If you want extra deterrence, the Pro # MB94FR adds flashing LEDs, although this one draws slightly more power so I'd recommend keeping the car on a maintainer or solar charger for this one.

Do you typically store the Prius for long stretches, or is it a daily driver?

Hi Andrew! I appreciate the info about using this on a Prius. I have an older 2008 model and my mechanic just found a dead mouse in my cabin filter. He suggested a product such as yours to repel them. I don’t drive much more than about once a week and my car is parked outside in a semi-rural area of Portland, OR. Will the Classic model MB44FR work for my purposes?

@PattyS Hey Patty! That's never fun, but it does happen from time to time unfortunately. I would definitely go with the MouseBlocker # MB44FR for your Prius. It doesn't pull much power at all so it can stay attached to your 12 volt battery long-term without any issues. Now with that being said, my research says your 12v battery is likely in the trunk! That means you can install this there, but it won't technically deter mice from the engine bay area since those are completely different compartments. The MouseBlocker cannot penetrate throughout the entire vehicle. You should have a fuse box under the hood with fuses and relays. You can use what is called a fusetap (found at auto parts store or online). Just google a fusetap and find the one that fits your fuses, and you can wire the MouseBlocker to that inside the fuse box under your hood. Sorry I didn't mention this in the original write up; I didn't realize the 12v battery was in the trunk when I wrote that.
