Question:
What brake system components and accessories do I need to purchase for my 2003 Airstream Classic? I have a brake drum 12 inch, 6 lug. What easy grease trailer hubs do I need? The dealer said that I need to replace my entire brakes because the wheel bearing grease has leaked into my brakes. I have 2 axle trailer. Thanks

Hey Thomas. To replace your brakes you'll need new hubs and brake assemblies. I am going to need some information from you to get you the correct hubs. There is no database I can look up that shows me this information like you can find on cars and trucks. What you'll want to do is pull one of the hubs and look at the two bearings inside. They should have numbers stamped into the sides of them. I'll need those part numbers to identify your spindle size which will tell me what hub you need.
If they do not have numbers stamped into the side you'll need to measure your spindles using a digital caliper like item # PTW80157. I'll need the C and D dimensions shown in the diagram below.
The Dexter Electric Trailer Brakes item # 23-180-181 should be the correct brake assemblies so long as your axle has a 5-bolt mounting flange. When you pull your hub off you'll want to look at the brake assembly and see how many bolts are holding it onto your axle. It should be 5 if you need a 12" brake hub but some older axles have 4.
You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.
