Updated 08/23/2025 | Published 08/17/2025

Question:

I have grand design transcend 265bh. I am wondering what if any products would help smooth out the drive? I use equalizer 14k hitch/antisway.

Hey Shawn!

Are you looking for something to smooth it out more on the coupler side, or more on the suspension side of things?

It sounds like you're using a weight distribution system. What system is that?

We definitely have a variety of options to help improve your towing performance, like the Lippert Bolt-On Shock Kit # LC281255 or the Shocker Air Equalizer for Weight Distribution Hitch # SHK77YR that you were looking at.

Where are you looking to see some improvement in your towing rig?

I use the equalizer system. I feel like the hitch part of it is not as helpful as it was when we bought it. I did change tow vehicle. I had dodge 3500 and now ford f250. I have hitch adapter and still has some space in hitch so I’m going to have neighbor cut some metal to fill the gap. The trailer and truck seem to bounce up and down more than I remember with previous truck. The hitch looks as though it is “loose” but could be my imagination. Any ideas how to help with vertical movement on truck and or trailer. Thank you!

@Shawn Great info to know! Moving from a 3500 to an F-250 will play a role in this simply because the 3500 is bigger so it can handle weight better. The Equal-i-zer brand has some great weight distribution systems, but using an adapter from a 2" shank to a 2-1/2" receiver will also factor in some of that movement. Using a shank designed for a 2-1/2" receiver, like the part # EQ90-02-4700 or # EQ94FR will be way more beneficial than trying to fill in the gap of an adapter with some metal shims. The Shocker Hitch shank with the air bag that you looked at is designed to help mitigate movement between the truck and trailer, so that would be a good step as well. Aside from swapping out the shank to something that would fit/work better, the next step I recommend taking is adding a suspension enhancement to your F-250. If you can give me the year of your Ford, I'd be happy to recommend a specific kit!

@JonG 2024 f250 crew cab short bed with 6.8l gas engine. The hitch is rated for 14k. I absolutely believe there is a weight difference between the 2 trucks.

@Shawn I did buy a hitch adapter to allow the equalizer to fit. It’s just not tight like on the older dodge. That’s where the shims come in.
