Do Roadmaster Smart Diodes Need To Be Wired In Behind The Tail Lights?

Updated 08/04/2025 | Published 07/30/2025

Question:

Hello. Regarding Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights - 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter Cord Part Number: RM38FR. I have a 2024 Chevy Equinox AWD with LED tail and brake lights. I want to wire them so I can flat tow this vehicle with a class A motorhome. Question. Why is it necessary apparently to run the four wire harness under the vehicle, tapping the 4 diodes into the rear lights? Is it not possible to just wire the 4 diodes to the proper fuses in the engine compartment, utilizing the factory wiring to send the tail, turn and brake light signals to the rear LED lights? Thanks! Jim J.

Hello Jim, thanks for reaching out. The Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RM38FR is the correct fit for your 2024 Chevy Equinox. The diodes do need to be wired in behind the tail lights as per the diagram in the instructions. Any alternative installation method would not be covered under warranty so not recommended. I have included a link to the instructions for your reference.
