Will The Dexter DX Series EOH Actuator K71-651 Drain My Vehicles Battery When Parked?

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/16/2025

Question:

I just installed the Dexter deemax disc brake system on my 5th wheel. When I attached the power wire to the 12dc voltage buss 40amp circuit breaker, it has a low current spark? the DX Series actuator was not running and it is was not connected to the truck yet. The actuator runs normal with the truck brake controller is activated . Just wondering at idle will it drain my battery on my 5th wheel just sitting? The brake control is the factory 2016 GMC Sierra unit. I was going to check the actual current it was drawing just sitting.

Hey David, thanks for reaching out. The Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator # K71-651 should have a draw on the truck battery. The draw is dependent on the truck itself as many vehicles will allow the draw for a limited time before shutting down. There shouldn't be an output from the brake actuator, so you shouldn't have an issue with long term parking. If you are concerned about losing your battery power in the vehicle, then you can unplug the trailer or if you want to add something to your truck, you can use the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 which will stop the draw from your vehicle start battery when the accessory voltage is turned off. This protects from unwanted draw to your vehicle start battery

Hey David, did you get a chance to check the actual current draw from your Dexter brake system while it's idle? I'm curious to know if the Battery Isolation Solenoid helped with your battery concerns. Your feedback could really help others in a similar situation!
