Need Replacement For Factory 7-Way On 2005 Ford F-250

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/13/2025

Question:

The original owner of my 2005 F-250 cut the factory plug off. I am left with bare wires. Can you supply a wiring diagram to direct wire your recommended controller to the factory supplied wires minus the connector?

Hey Bob, thanks for reaching out. The best thing to do here will be for you to wire in a standard USCAR connector like part # 20147. This is the same plug that comes standard on most trucks and is likley what the previous owner cut off. Once you wire that in, you can add a new trailer socket like part # HM75MV.

I'm afraid I don't have any diagram for your truck that tells which wires are which. What I would do it take a wire tester like part # PT72PJ or a volt meter and poke around and determine which wire is which. They may not necessarily be color coded.

If your truck came with the factory 7-way it should be equipped with an OEM brake control port under the dash. If so, you can use a custom pigtail to install a brake controller. The Curt TriFlex NEXT # C55MV is what I recommend for that.

Hey Bob, how did it go with wiring in the USCAR connector and using the wire tester to figure out the wires on your F-250? I'm curious to know if you were able to get everything set up smoothly. Let me know if you need any more help!
