Issue With The Curt Echo Showing Trailer Disconnected When Trailer Is Hooked Up
Updated 08/11/2025 | Published 07/07/2025 >
Question:
I am having trouble keeping my Curt Echo Wireless brake controller connected. I have an older trailer that is in good shape. I connect the brake controller and it might work for 5 seconds or up to 20 miles, then it warns me that the trailer has become disconnected. I have cleaned the trailer plug several times with contact cleaner, used sand paper to clean all 7 connections and cleaned with compressed air. I will say that when I get the “disconnected message” I have checked all my lights and they work just fine. I have considered putting a new plug on the trailer but with all the lights working, I wonder if the Echo is faulty. Any suggestions? Dan

Hey Dan,
The most common cause of the trailer disconnected issue on your Echo is a damaged or bent pin in the 7 way connection. Having a bent pin is going to make the connection loose which is why sometimes it works, but once you get going and hit some bumps it may losing and reflect that the trailer is disconnected. I recommend checking the plugs from the vehicle and trailer end to inspect any damage.
You may also try disconnecting and resetting your Curt Echo. If none of that fixes the issue let me know and I can continue to troubleshoot for you.
