How to Gain Additional Clearance on Brinkley Model G 3970 With Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/22/2025

Question:

Hello I have question on item BWRVK3050. I have a Chevy 2016 High Country Dually and I recently bought a Brinkley 3970 with the GEN Y ball hitch on it. I am having clearance issues with front jacks of the 3970 in some areas with uneven ground. I installed the Timbrens with the spacer kit which gave me an extra inch of clearance. I was hoping for more but ok. I like the ball hitch because of the other trailers I have that I pull, so my question is what do you have that will help me get more clearance maybe 3 inches without having to buy this fifth wheel hitch? Thank you Larry

Hey Larry, welcome back! To gain that extra clearance at this point you will need to raise the trailer. More than likely your leaf springs are already on top of the axle so an axle flip kit won't do it. If a 2-1/4" lift is enough you can use the # RR55QX. This extends the hangers to raise the trailer height. If you really think you need 3" the only option would be to cut off all of your hangers and weld on new ones that are 3" taller.

Hey Larry, did you decide to go with the lift kit to get that extra clearance for your Brinkley 3970? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could really help others facing similar clearance issues.
