Is it Possible to Run Two RV AC Units off 30 Amp Service
Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/17/2025 >
Question:
I currently have a 2020 Mesa Ridge fifth wheel with two a/c units, both are Dometic units 15k and 13.5 k. I am on a seasonal campsite that only has 30 amp service. I have done some research on how to run two a/c units on a 30 amp pole, but would like to know your opinion. 1- is it realistic? 2- would i damage my camper? 3 - if it is possible, what is needed? I have seen the Easy Start and the Startup plug and play. Everyone has opinions and say this one is better then another, other say they dont work. What are my options?

Hey Dan, if you install two Softstarts part # SSR54FR you can definitely have two AC units running on a 30 amp power supply like you mentioned. Softstart even says you can run two 15k BTU AC units if you install one of these with both units so your setup of a 15k btu and a 13.5k btu unit would work just fine. The Softstarts have worked really well for us and our customers so that is what we recommend.
