What Shackle Bolt Kit Do You Recommend For My Singe Axle Trailer?

Updated 09/08/2025 | Published 06/12/2025

Question:

I’m in the process of conducting some research on the parts needed to replace the suspension on my single axle boat trailer. I’m replacing my leaf springs, shackles, U-bolts, etc. I like that this shackle is heavy duty as I had a thinner shackle fail on me a little over 5 years ago. If I use this shackle would it require going up to a 3 1/2 inch shackle bolt to account for the added density. The length measurement center hole to center hole of my current shackle looks to be 3 1/8 inches so it matches the shackle length of this item. Appreciate your response….. Thank You

Hey Rich,

The bolt shouldn't need to be much longer. I am not sure what length was originally on the trailer but what I recommend is going with the kit from Dexter # K71-358-00. This is going to include all the shackle straps, bolts and bushings needed to replace on your single axle trailer. The bolts with it are long enough to accommodate the thicker shackle and still fit your springs. The thicker shackle strap is a great choice and going to last longer than the original thin shackles that come on most trailers.

Do you know what length springs you need? I can get together a parts list for you if you know the axle capacity and size spring you need.

Hey Rich, Did you have a chance to find out the length of the springs you need for your trailer? If you’re still looking for a solution, I’m happy to help.
