Can The Rhino-Rack Roof Mounted Steel Cargo Basket RRRMCB03 Work With 1-3/4" Tall Crossbars

Updated 06/04/2025 | Published 06/01/2025

Question:

Hello, my question is about the Rhino Rack roof mounted cargo basket RRRMCB03. I see the clamp mounting states 1-1/2” max height for the crossbar. Mine is 1-3/4”. Will the clamps work with my crossbars at 1-3/4”? Can I get longer screws from a second supplier to possibly make it work? Thanks!

Hello Ed, thanks for reaching out. For the Rhino-Rack Roof Mounted Steel Cargo Basket # RRRMCB03 they do specify a 1-1/2" max crossbar height for a reason. It MIGHT work with a 1-3/4" tall crossbar but the concern would be the bolts that hold the bracket on may not be long enough to thread on the nuts.

Take a look at the picture below. This shows the bolts being used with a Rhino aero bar which is 1-3/16" tall. You can see there is not a lot of bolt left. Looks like less than 1/2". But I am thinking this would not work with a 1-3/4" tall crossbar so the only way to use it would be to find longer bolts at a local hardware store.

What kind/brand of roof rack do you have? Just curious.

@EdL Gotcha! I wonder if it would be worth reaching out directly to RCI to see if they have a basket or bracket they recommend.

I am going to order this Rhino-Rack basket today. You don’t happen to know the screw thread size for the screws that come with it, do you? Thanks again for all the info.

@EdL I know they are M6 screws but sadly Rhino Rack does not state the length in the instructions. If you could find something 1/2" longer than the included bolts that would work fine. If I were you I would just take one of the brackets to the store with me and fine a bolt/nut combo that fits. Sorry I know this is not the most helpful thing ever
