Looking For Some Solutions So I Do Not Have To Repack My Bearings Every Year

Updated 06/03/2025 | Published 05/29/2025

Question:

I have been repacking your utility trailer, single axle wheel bearings each year, and I find it’s kind of a pain and I’m wondering if there are any sealed bearings that do not need to be repacked on a regular schedule that work for you utility trailers?

Hey Don,

The only solution we have for not having to repack them every year is Dexter Nev-R-Lube bearings. The issue with those is the fact we only have options for 5200-8000lb axles with certain size bearings. This may work it just depends on your axle capacity and bearing sizes. If you want to let me know I can take a look to see if it will work.

Another option, again depending on if your setup can, would be to switch to oil bath hubs, a lower maintenance hub style with better corrosion resistance. Both of these options depend on your set up.

If you want to let me know the bearing numbers you have and the axle capacity on your single axle trailer I can take a look and see if there are some better options for you to provide lower maintenance.

Thank you very much Nick for your reply. My best bet will just be to repack them each year.

@Don I would agree, I know it's a pain to have to do it but super important that you are. Its just going to keep your trailer in good condition and driving smoothly. It sounds like you have been doing it regularly which is great. What is your axle capacity and bolt pattern on your hub? I am going to take a look and just see what options we have for you.

@NickS thank you for your response Nick. Trailer capacity is 1000 pounds, I believe and it has a five bolt lug nut pattern.

@Don Something like # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K has an EZ lube feature. The hub has a grease cap that covers a grease fitting. Instead of taking the bearings out and repacking them every year this allows you to just remove the cap and access that fitting to grease the bearings that way. It still warrants the action of "repacking" them but makes the process a bit easier. Let me know what you think.
