Is It Safe To Stack Multiple Ring Terminals On Positive Battery Post

Published 05/23/2025

Question:

Hello, In the photo of my vehicles battery you can see the red 10 gauge wire coming from the 4 to 7 pin adapter for charging the trailer battery and the yellow 12 gauge wire coming from the 4 pin trailer wiring kit. What’s the best way to connect these two wires to the positive battery post? I have heard that stacking ring terminals is not a good idea from a safety standpoint. Thanks! John

Hey John,

The only time it gets iffy having multiple terminals on a battery is when you have a LOT of them stacked together. That will create bad connections and cause issues. For what you are doing it is totally okay to just put a ring terminal on that red wire and put them both on the battery. This will not cause any issues or safety worries, you'll be just fine!

How was the rest of the installation for you?

Thanks Nick, I really appreciate it! Running the wires under my van was pretty difficult, but I think I figured it out. It's been a learning experience, that's for sure. The positive terminal of my battery was very corroded and full of acid when I started this project which was very concerning as it was last touched by Toyota mechanics when they put a new battery in last year. I've cleaned it all up and I'm using battery post washers and dielectric grease to hopefully prevent it happening again. Thanks, John

@John I always say some of the most difficult parts of the process is just running the wire, gets me every time. Cleaning up that terminal was a good call, just going to make that connection better. You'll have to let me know what you're towing once you get it all set up!
