What Bearing Kit Is Needed For 2008 Rockwood Freedom Pop Up Camper

Question:

Hi, I have a 2008 Rockwood Freedom pop-up trailer and bearing parts are very used so I cannot make out the parts number. Can I buy a BK2-100 kit and change everything? Will it fit on my axle and wheel? Thanks! Model FMD275746 1940LTD

Hello Constantin, thanks for reaching out. I can certainly point you in the right direction. The # BK2-100 bearing kit may be correct for you, but I would not be able to confirm this based on a year and model of trailer. RV manufacturers just do not get that specific with their online literature.

Do you happen to know the weight capacity of your axle? The # BK2-100 kit is for a standard 3,500 lb axle, so this will work for virtually any 3.5K axle made within the last 20 or so years. There should be a tag on the axle that shows the capacity, or it may show the GAWR on the trailer ID tag.

If the tag isn't present, you can measure the ID of your bearings. If your inner bearing is 1.378" ID and your outer is 1.063" ID, you can be sure the # BK2-100 kit will be correct for you.

Thanks for your quick reply! GAWR says 2100 lbs on my trailer id. Which would be the correct kit then?

@Constantin That is going to be a bit more tricky since there is not a standard bearing combination for that. What is the ID of your bearings? If you can measure those, and the part of the spindle where the seal rides I should be able to look it up that way. You will want to use a micrometer that goes to the thousandth of an inch. The 2,100 lb axles might use the # BK1-100 kit which is for a 1" straight spindle, but please measure and confirm.
