Can Dexter Over Under Kit Be Used To Lower a Trailer? To Go from Over To Under?

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 04/30/2025

Question:

I have a question about the Dexter trailer springs over-under axle flip kit. Every thing I’m reading as well as your videos all show going from under to over. I actually need to go from over to under. Will this kit work for my application? I know I need to measure my axles to make sure I get the right kit. I have a tandem axle trailer with a gvw of 7000lbs 2 x 3500lbs axles. K71-385-00

Hello Andrew, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the over under kit will work for that application. People typically use these for raising the ride height, but it can be used to go from over to under as well. For your tandem 3,500 lb axles you will need two of the # K71-384-00 kits.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Hey Andrew, did the over-under kit work for switching your axles from over to under? I'm asking because your experience could really help others with similar setups.

@JesseM Worked great already have 5000miles on the setup and my gas mileage went up.

@AndrewM Thanks for sharing! You know, I never really thought about that, but I guess it makes sense that raising the trailer would change the aerodynamics of your towing setup and could reduce fuel economy. Interesting. Just out of curiosity, about how much did your gas mileage go up by?
