What is Purpose of Metal Box on Top of High Pointe Microwave HP59ZR

Question:
What is the purpose of the metal box on top of the microwave, behind the trim plate? Assuming it is for ventilation, is it for ventilation of steam from stove below, or is it for cooling the microwave itself? Can the trim plate and ventilation box be flipped to the bottom?

Hey David, the box on the top of the High Pointe Microwave part # HP59ZR that you referenced is the charcoal filter. This microwave does not have the ability to relocate this to the bottom of the microwave.
