Hello Wayne, thanks for reaching out. The old Blue Ox Patriot brake system is designed to be charged off a 12v power source. Typically charging the battery between uses is not necessary, but if you want to keep it topped off to help with battery longevity you could hook it up to 12v power occasionally. There is no handbook for this though. I would use the 12v outlet in your vehicle or you could use a 12 Volt Outlet Kit like part # RM-9332 hooked up to a battery in your garage or something.

Jesse M Thanks for the response and I understand how to wire it to a plug. But will I turn the switch on or leave it off. on the blue ox to charge the battery from time to time when it is not in the vehicle. And i take it that the center is the positive and the outside is the negative? or does blue ox do it backwards. Looking forward for your answer. Thanks, Wayne

@WayneS You would want to turn it on and hook it up the same as if you were preparing to use it in your towed vehicle since that is how it was designed to charge. As far as the positive and negative I am afraid I do not have a way to answer that. The old Patriot has been discontinued so we do not have any technical documents we can reference. If you can get ahold of Blue Ox they should be able to tell you. I assume it is standard but I cannot confirm.
