Diagnosing AirLift Compressor Draining Battery In 2022 Ram 1500

Updated 06/29/2025 | Published 03/15/2025

Question:

I installed this and had a dead battery today. Put it on a 22 ram 1500. Split fuse 44, the read camera fuse. I used a volt meter to verify it is only on when the truck is turned on. However, i heard the pump kick on when it was off. Using my volt meter it, there are about 2.9 amps at the fuse when the engine switch is off. I pulled the inline fuse from the battery to the pump and the voltage goes back to 0 on the switched fuse. When i put the inline fuse back in, there are about 3 amps showing back up on the switched fuse. It seems to be feeding power from the pump to the inline switch when the engine is off. Is this normal?

Hey Chris, sorry you're having that amperage draw issue on your AirLift # AL25980EZ setup. Do you know if you attached the pink wire to anything? It is optional, but AirLift recommends running that to your ignition switch so that it only gets power and wakes up when your ignition or vehicle is turned on.

I noticed you said fuse 44. I looked up your fuse box diagram and fuse 44 seems to be for the diagnostic port. Is that what you're referring to, or am I misunderstanding you?

If you can verify where you ran the red wire and if you ran the pink wire somewhere, I can look into this more and even reach out to AirLift to get some more support if need be. Your battery should NOT be dead after installing this kit. There is some parasitic draw somewhere for sure.

Andrew, Thank you for your response. Regarding fuse 44 and the pink wire. Using a volt meternd no fuse in, there is no power. When switched on, it shows 12v. I went off the diagram on the cover that has fuse 44 labeled as camera. I removed the fuse and tested just the pink wire, engine off, not on accessories, no power and it reads 2.75. I removed the inline fuse from the red wire coming directly off the battery to the pump amd tested the isolated pink wire again, it had no power. So, i don’t think it’s in an incorrect fuse placement. That being said, i think it maybe normal. My battery wouldn’t hold a charge. It was 10 years old and was bad. Maybe just a coincidence. I put a new battery in and it seems to have solved the problem. After turning the engine off i let air out of the system and it doesn’t kick on. When i start the car, it operates normally. Still shows 2.76 on the volt meter though. So, i don’t know. It works, has been a few weeks and doesn’t drain the battery.

@Chris ahh yes, a 10 year old bad battery and cause some issues for sure. Electronics act quite wonky when they aren't getting proper voltage, or vice versa. It sounds to me like everything is working as intended. But feel free to come back if there is ever an issue or if you ever need anything else Chris. Take care.

@FernandoM Hey there, according to the online version of your owner's manual, it looks like you should have a fuse under the hood in the fuse box that correlates to the cigarette 12v power outlet in your cab, the one that only turns on when the vehicle/ignition is on. It should be F54 Fuse 20 A Yellow Power Outlet Ignition Fed Position. You'll want to check your owner's manual and fuse box to verify. Other than that, you could also use the Upfitter Fuse which is for accessories like light bars etc. This should be F36, but I'd verify again. One way to check which fuse is hot when the ignition or vehicle is on is to use a test light or circuit tester, such as LCD Digital Circuit Tester # PTW2992
