Recommended 1-1/4" Hitch for a 2025 Subaru Forester

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/01/2025

Question:

Im buying a 2025 Subaru Forester. I have a 2014 Subura Forester with a trailer hitch I bought from you long time ago. Id like to remove the hitch from the 2014 to the 2025. Is there a big difference between 2014 part C12100 and 2025 C12198? Thank you

Hey George congrats on the new SUV! The Curt Hitch item # C12198 that fits the 2025 Subaru Forester is wider and is shorter in height than the Curt item # C12100 that fit your 2014. Additionally, the hardware can not be reused once it's been installed and used which means you'd need to purchase all new hardware using the Replacement Hardware Kit item # RHK.

I strongly recommend purchasing the Curt Hitch item # C12198 that is custom fit for your new 2025 Subaru Forester. The new hitch will install easily without modification and you'll be covered by Curt's warranty. You will not have any warranty protections reusing a hitch that isn't designed for your vehicle. Additionally, if using your old hitch causes any damage to your new vehicle, Subaru's warranty will not cover it.

I have linked an installation video below so you can see how to get this hitch installed. If you have any additional questions feel free to throw them into the comment box below.

If you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # C56040 and a ball mount kit item # e47DR.

Hey George, how did things go with the new Curt hitch on your 2025 Forester? Did the fit and install go as smoothly as expected? Your update could make it easier for the next person upgrading from an older Forester.
