Options For Replacing Equalizer On Construction Cargo Trailer
Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 02/27/2025 >
Question:
I’m in the process to replace the suspension of my construction cargo trailer. Currently I have the Dexter EZ flex product K71-652-00. I was curious if I should replace with the same item or is there a better product I should consider. Ease of maintenance is a bonus but robust/rigidity is a must because I live in a city with crater sized potholes.

Hey Doug, thanks for reaching out. I know what you mean about the crater potholes. We are out here in Missouri and our roads got absolutely decimated this winter. Fortunately, I have memorized all the major pothole locations along my commute so I can avoid them lol.
Anyway, if you want to stick with a cushioned equalizer, I do recommend sticking with the Dexter E-Z Flex # K71-652-00. There are other upgraded equalizers out there, and they all more or less do the same thing by adding shock absorbing rubber into the mix. Your trailers suspension is built around a certain size of equalizer, and there is very little tolerance. So if you were to switch to something else, it would need to be dimensionally identical to the E-Z Flex. Any difference in size can throw the suspension out of center. The other upgraded equalizers have some dimensional differences so it will be best to stick with what you have now.

Hey Doug, how did things turn out with the Dexter E-Z Flex suspension on your cargo trailer? Did sticking with the same setup give you the strength and ride quality you needed on those rough city roads? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with similar conditions.
