2022 Nissan Pathfinder Wiring Needed for Using a Brake Controller

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/22/2025

Question:

I just bought a 2022 Nissan pathfinder that came with a 4 pin connection by the hitch. I need to tow an RV trailer so I’m guessing I need to replace the 4 pin with a 7 pin. Is there an easy kit like Tekonsha 118273. Also I have a Primus brake controller that looks like it will connect to the harness. I left the mounting bracket in my totaled armada. Can I buy the bracket separately?

Hey Craig, thanks for reaching out!

In order to install your Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 brake controller on your 2022 Pathfinder you need the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7, which plugs in to the 4-Way you already have, and then comes with the additional wiring and connections you need for a brake controller.

The bracket 5280 is what used to be the replacement for your Primus controller, but that has since been discontinued so you'll need to get creative with how it ends up getting mounted on your vehicle.

If you'd rather go with a different brake controller, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to make a different recommendation for you!

Hey Craig, how did things go with adding the ETBC7 kit to your Pathfinder for the Primus brake controller? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar towing setup.
