I am concerned about the muffler hitting the hitch and the paint burning off.

Expert Reply:
If installed according to the installation instructions the exhaust of your 2014 Chevy Sonic would not touch the Draw-Tite so you would not have to worry about that. I attached installation instructions for you to check out. You'll notice that the exhaust will get temporary lowered, but it will get put back in its original location and will not interfere with the hitch.
This hitch does not come with a ball mount. To complete your towing setup you may also be interested in the 1-7/8 inch hitch ball part # 19256 and 2 inch hitch ball part # 19258.
