Does Curt Hitch Install for 2018 Honda CR-V Require Moving Rear Liftgate Sensors
Updated 01/30/2025 | Published 01/29/2025 >
Question:
The installation video for the C13397 on a 2018 CRV states at the 6:55 point of the video that if a hands free sensor is present it must be removed and the housing trimmed. The video states that instructions for this are included. I reviewed the install instructions linked in the product and found no mention of this. Can you elaborate or add a video showing what needs to be done including if the sensor must be removed. I dont especially care if the hands free function is interfered with, but the video made it sound like its housing must be trimmed to complete the installation.

Hey Greg, I am not sure why the installer said that aside from fact that's a much older video and most likely the instructions have changed since then. You aren't going to have to do anything with the sensors otherwise it would be in at least one of the other videos or in the install instructions which they aren't. What are you going to use the hitch for?

Thanks for the clarification. I have a 2018 CRV Touring. Since the basic design of the C13397 and the e98848 seem nearly identical, would either install on my CRV without the need to make any alteration to the hands free sensor as was mentioned in the video. I'm not concerned if the functionality of the sensor is lost, my only concern is the possible need to move or "trim the housing." I'm leaning towards the e98848 because I prefer the finish. I prefer the hidden appearance of these 2 options. My use will be occasionally a light motorcycle trailer and perhaps a rear bike rack.
