Question:
I have a 2023 Ford Escape with the factory installed trailer package The trailer connector is a 4-pin flat. I have a tent trailer with a 7 pin round connection. Id like to use a Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller Part C51180 so I will need a 7-Pin round adapter Part 37185 ? Since the trailer package is installed, Im assuming that means there is a power wire running to a controller box somewhere, and no further wiring is needed besides the adapter above to power the wireless brake controller? Id like to do this with minimal aftermarket change, as it is a leased car

Hey Paul, thanks for reaching out. You are on the right track here, because the # 37185 adapter can be used for this application, but you will need to run 12 gauge wire from the black wire on the adapter to the battery on your Escape with a 40 amp circuit breaker inline.
The Curt Echo wireless controller does need 12v power to operate, and the current 4-flat does not have a 12v pin. There is power going to a converter somewhere, but we need a 12v pin on the 7-way, so a wire must be run directly to the battery.
We actually custom make our own installation kit specifically for this purpose, the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L. This comes with an adapter just like the one you mentioned, plus it comes with all the wire you need, a circuit breaker, zip ties and wire connectors. This kit will be your best bet if you want to get everything you need all in one go.
But like I said, you can use the # 37185 if you wish, you would just need to get some wire and circuit breaker and you will be good to go. Also you would not be modifying anything on the vehicle, just adding on. These components could be removed if needed.
We also have the Curt Echo Wireless controller available as part # C51180 if you still need one.

Thanks for the great information! Just one question - is there an advantage of using the circuit breaker that comes with the kit vs a fuse holder / fuse? I.E. part # 118151 Just thinking that it would be more serviceable in the future to just replace a fuse vs having to replace the circuit breaker
