Troubleshooting Low Pressure on a Excel RV Tankless On-Demand Water Heater

Updated 01/02/2025 | Published 12/29/2024

Question:

I have a exel lpg vent free tankless water heater with very low water pressure. I have a new pump that is working just fine. Its just when it gets through the water heater is slows down considerably. It worked fine before and this just started recently. Ive been using it for about 2 yrs. Was going to just flush it out but I cannot find any instructions on how to do it properly. Thank you for any and all help you can give.

Hey Aaron. To flush out a Excel RV tankless water heater like item # EX93FR you'll want to shut off the water supply then disconnect the outlet water line allowing any water that may remain inside the system to drain. You can use compressed air to push whatever water remains in the system out but you'll have to disconnect the water supply line to do this.

I'm not sure that's your problem though. Water doesn't sit in those long enough to build up a blockage being as they are tankless. Since you already know you're supplying pressure, I recommend checking your ventilation. Those units will slow down to the point of shutting off if they're not ventilated properly. Something may be blocking your exhaust.

The next thing to check would be the gas pressure to ensure that the unit is receiving 11" WC. This will likely require a licensed technician since the tools needed to check gas pressure aren't readily available for most consumers. If the pressure is too low then your regulator is possibly in need of replacement or a good cleaning.

Thank you sir, found the problem. Large plug of hair at the screen where the water enters into the heater. Removed it and works just fine thank the Lord. Thank you for your help and hope you have a Blessed New Year!!!

@Myfry22 You're welcome! That is definitely not what I expected the problem to be. What kind of hair was it and do you have any idea how it got into your water line?
