Can Dylux Tankless RV Water Heater Be Used In Winter? Does It Have Freeze Protection?
Published 05/27/2026 >
Question:
I winter camp a few times a year. Does the Dylux have freeze protection, or do I still need to winterize it?

Hi Eric! The Dylux RV Tankless Water Heater # DY54FR does have auto frost protection, which activates when the temperature drops below close to freezing temps. That’s a helpful feature for chilly nights while the RV is in use.
I would not treat that as a replacement for proper winterizing, though. This is still an exterior-wall RV water heater, so it’s exposed to cold air at the outside access area. If the RV is going into storage, sitting unused in freezing weather, or won’t have power and propane available, you’ll still want to drain and winterize the system according to the instructions. Luckily this is a bit easier than older tanked heaters since this one doesn't have a big 6 gallon tank to flush out. You'll blow out the lines and then fill the water heater with RV-safe antifreeze.
Eric, are you using the camper through winter, or mainly trying to protect it while it’s parked between trips?

Thanks Andrew. I mainly just wanted to make sure I could leave everything hooked up while camping if it happens to get below freezing for a night or two. Sounds like I'll be shipshape :)
