Will SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs Fit With 4-3/4" Clearance

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/22/2024

Question:

I have a fifth wheel and I want to add the SumoSprings trailer helper springs 5 K to 8 K overslung and I only have 4 3/4 inches from top of axle plate to frame . I see where the Sumo spring requires 5 1/4 inches are there any other options for my set up or would a 1/2 tighter make a difference Thank you

Hi Tony; according to SuperSprings if you don't have the required clearance the # TSS-107-40 will end up over compressed causing a firm ride and potential failure of the springs. You can add taller hangers to raise the trailer and get the clearance but that would be a lot of work just to add these in. Instead, you can use the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System Medium-Duty Trailers 7,000 lbs # TTRA1032. This works with both overslung and underslung axles.

Hey Tony, how did things go with the Timbren suspension system for your fifth wheel? I'm curious if it gave you the clearance and ride quality you were looking for. Your update could make it easier for others facing the same tight space issue.
