Best Low-Profile Tire for a 14x7 High Deck Utility Trailer

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/15/2024

Question:

I’m planning on building a 14’x7’ high deck utility trailer. I want to keep the deck as low as possible. Will be running conventional tandem axles. I want the smallest wheels with E rated wheels and tires. Looking for electric brakes to fit ,either disc or drum. Keeping the deck as low as possible is critical for my application. Thanks

Hey Kevin,

I can definitely help you out with some tires for your high-deck low-riding trailer, but in order to take full advantage of your axle ratings we are going to be limited on how small we can get with the tires.

For your application I recommend going with the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 14" White Spoke Wheel with 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern # AM32161. This had a Load Range D, but with this specific size it gives you 2,200 lbs at 75 psi so it will be well rated for your trailer since I'm pretty confident you have 3,500 lb axles.

The 205/75-14 tire size have a 26.3" diameter so the center of your axles will be just over 13" above the ground.

Hey Kevin, how did the Karrier ST205/75R14 tires work out for keeping your trailer deck low? Your results could really help others trying to balance axle capacity with deck height. Sharing what you found might guide the next builder with a similar setup.
