Can a Gooseneck Hitch be Installed on a 2018 Silverado 3500 with a Rugby Dump Body

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/25/2024

Question:

I have a 2018 silverado 3500 chassi cab with a rugby dump body on it. The body is permanitly mounted and does not dump. I would like to install a gooseneck hitch on this truck. Which should I go with?

Hey Bryan,

The only possible gooseneck solution we have for your unique setup is the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Flatbed Trucks # BWGNRK1500. This is installed via welding so it isn't restricted to a custom frame bracket fitment, but you will need to have a professional welder install this for you.

There are two possible issues I can see popping up with what you're wanting to do so I at least want to put them on your radar. The first is that if you're installing this gooseneck in the dump body then the height might be too much for you to tow a gooseneck trailer level, and the second is that the height of the side walls on your dump body might need to be modified so the gooseneck section has adequate clearance for turning.

If you can figure out solutions for those issues then you should be good to go!

Hey Bryan, how did things go with the B&W Turnoverball hitch on your Silverado chassis cab? Were you able to work around the dump body height and clearance issues? Your update could make it easier for others with similar flatbed setups.
