Will Muffler Have to Be Removed for Hitch Installation on 2006 Toyota Avalon XLS
Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/12/2024 >
Question:
When installing Draw-Tite hitch part 24870 on a 2006 Toyota Avalon XLS is it necessary to completely remove the mufflers or can they just be ped while supported as shown on later year 3rd generation Avalons? Thanks

Hi Jim; according to the instructions for the # 24870 all you have to do is lower the muffler to install the hitch. Lowering it and supporting it with a strap will be adequate. However, if you're having trouble getting it into place with the available space after lowering it you could completely remove the muffler like we did in the older installation video.

Hey Jim, how did things go with lowering the muffler when you installed the Draw-Tite hitch on your Avalon? Did supporting it with a strap give you enough room to work? Your update could make it easier for the next person doing the same install.
