Can A 2016 Tesla Model S Use A Weight Distribution Hitch

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/09/2024

Question:

I bought theFastway E2 FA92-00-0450 weight distribution hitch from etrailer for my 2016 Tesla Model S. The shank that comes with the WDH gives me only 6inch rise. I need at least few more inches of rise to be at the same level with the coupler of my trailer. I was going to use a 92-02-4315 Fastway E2 Shank with 12inch rise but the holes on the 12inch rise shank are larger than my 5/8inch holes on my FA92-00-0450 weight distribution hitch. Could you recommend any riser shank that would work with my FA92-00-0450 weight distribution hitch that all 5/8inch holes? Please advise. Thank you.

Hi Danut,

Tesla does not recommend using a weight distribution hitch with the Model S and the EcoHitch # 306-X7201 you purchased and installed is not rated for use with weight distribution hitches. Do you have another tow vehicle you could use? If so we can look into the correct rise shank needed to get your trailer towing level.

Hey Danut, were you able to find another tow vehicle to use with your Fastway E2 hitch setup? Knowing what you ended up doing could really help others who run into the same issue with the Model S and weight distribution hitches.
