7-Way Wiring Needed For A 2001 Lexus LX 470 With A Curt Echo Brake Controller

Updated 12/16/2025 | Published 11/09/2024

Question:

I already have the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller - 7-Way Plug. What kits do you recommend for a 2001 Lexus LX470 to complete trailer brakes and lights for 7 way hookup to trailer. It already has the flat 4 way plug.

Hey Josh,

If you're already setup with a 4-pole and have the Curt Echo # C51180 in hand then all you should need is just the # ETBC7L 7-way installation kit in order fully transfer over your lights and brake signal. You'll want to just cap off the yellow and blue wires with some electrical tape since you won't be using them.

The 4-pole connector will connect to the 4-way on the Lexus, the white wire will need to be ground to the frame using a ring terminal and self-tapping screw, and the black wire will need to be ran up to the battery for power. You'll want to avoid any moving components or parts that generate heat (exhaust) while running the power wire up to the engine compartment. You'll want to mount the included circuit breaker close to the battery and connect the power wire to it with a ring terminal and then over to the battery so that the circuit breaker can protect your wiring.

To mount the 7-way to the trailer hitch you can use a no-drill mount # 18140.

Hey Josh, how did things go with the ETBC7L kit on your Lexus? Were you able to get the 7-way hookup working smoothly with your Curt Echo controller? Your update could make it easier for others wiring a similar setup.

@JohnH yeah everything worked great! It’s been over a year now since I installed that. So the details are a bit fuzzy. But this is a great option to run a break controller. Really appreciate the feedback and great customer service.
