Wiring Issues on a Kaufman EZ4 Trailer
Published 11/08/2024 >
Question:
Hi, I have a Kaufman EZ4. When I hook up the trailer plug to the truck, everything works fine. When I back the truck under the 5th wheel hitch, as soon as metal touches metal, the running lights And trailer brakes stop working and it blows the trailer fuses in my truck. Any ideas? Thanks very much. Respectfully, Greg

Hey Greg! You've got a fault in a wire somewhere. Potentially a bad ground but my guess is something hot is touching the metal and that's what's causing you to blow your fuses. I recommend starting at your trailer's 7-way connector and working your way backwards towards the tail lights. Make sure your ground/s are solidly connected. Look for any bare or stripped wires touching the frame.

Hi Mr. Jerred, Thanks for answering. The part that baffles me is that the trailer had not moved for weeks. However, we did have about a foot of rain with the last hurricane that came through Tampa. I was wondering if it could have something to do with water getting somewhere it shouldn’t be. Thanks again. Respectfully, Greg
