Good 14", 15", or 16" Trailer Wheel For Standing up to Road Salt

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/27/2024

Question:

I have a 24’ enclosed snowmobile trailer with 5000lb axles. Looking for a good wheel that holds up to road salt. I have steel wheels on there now about rusted right off! Not quite. Any recommendations? Thanks for your time!

Hi Glenn,

So without knowing your wheel size and bolt pattern it's impossible to give you a singular recommendation, but I can reasonably narrow it down to either a 14", 15" or 16" wheel based on your 5,000 lb axle. I also assume you have a 5 or 6 lug wheel, and the best option to repel road salt is 100% an aluminum wheel.

Again, this is going to depend on the size you need, but for example a great option if you have a 14" wheel and 5-bolt hub is the Aluminum Sendel Hi-Spec Wheel # AM22327.

There are dozens and dozens of aluminum wheel options that vary greatly based on price and style, so I have added a link below to each of the 14", 15", and 16" aluminum wheels.

Hey Glenn, did you end up finding an aluminum wheel that holds up well against the road salt on your trailer? Your update could make it easier for others trying to replace rusted steel wheels.
