Hello Zach, thanks for reaching out. It may be possible to add brakes to your 1998 Starcraft Venture 2406. You will first need make sure that your axle is equipped with a brake flange. It will be a square flange welded to the base of the spindle. If you have a brake flange, brakes can be added. If you do not have a brake flange you can have a qualified welder add them on for you, or you can replace the axle entirely.

If the brake flange is present, in order to add electric brakes, you will need electric brake assemblies, hub/drum assemblies, a trailer wiring harness, an emergency breakaway kit and an electric trailer brake controller for your tow vehicle.

In order to recommend the correct parts, I will need to know a few things about your trailer. First I will need to know the weight capacity of your axle, as well as the inner bearing number, outer bearing number and seal size. The best way to determine this is to pull a hub and remove the bearings. Each bearing will have a number stamped on the edge. Let me know those numbers and I can make sure you get the right brake assemblies and hubs.

Here is a list of the rest of the parts I recommend:

- etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector # e99011

- Jacketed 2 Wire (Brake Wire) - 12 Gauge - per Foot # 12-2-1 (sold by the fool as needed for your install)

- Hopkins Engager Trailer Breakaway Kit w/ Charger, LED Tester, Hardware, and 5 Ah Battery - Top Load # 20400

- Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195

We have a guide that goes over adding brakes to a trailer, and I have provided a link to this guide for you below. Let me know you axle capacity and bearing sizes and I can recommend the rest of the parts you need. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey Zach, were you able to check your axle for the brake flange on your Starcraft Venture 2406? Once you have the axle capacity and bearing numbers, I can help confirm the right brake assemblies and hubs. Let me know what you find so we can get you set up for those mountain drives.
