Question:
I am hoping you can help me out. I recently purchased 24foot Covered wagon Trailer. It is a 2016 with 5200lb axles. I am replacing the tires and when I checked the brakes and the wheel bearings I was not a happy camper. To my dismay the previous owner was not on the up and up when he told me he repacked the wheel bearings. He packed them alright. The inside of drum, brake shoes and hardware are covered in wheel bearing grease. I have known people who have had good results cleaning the shoes in alcohol but that makes me question how good are they really cleaned. Anyway can I change these axle tex manual adjust brake assemblies to self adjusting assemblies? If so is there any changes needed to make it function as designed. What I currently have: Axle tex B12E-22 Dated 10-24-2020 Axle Tecknology drums BD2-655 Dated 42/15 I appreciate you taking the time to help me sort this out. John

Hi John; that is definitely the kind of thing you don't want to find but at least you can take care of it now. Once you get everything cleaned up you can swap over to the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes - Self-Adjusting # AKEBRK-7-SA without any additional parts or changes. If you want new mounting hardware you can use the # BRKH12. If you decide you want to go ahead and swap out the hub and drum assembly as well the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-K will fit that axle.

Hey John, how did the swap to the self-adjusting trailer brakes go on your Covered Wagon trailer? Were the new assemblies a smooth fit once you cleaned everything up? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same axle setup.
