What are Common Trailer Wheelbases
Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/03/2024 >
Question:
Hi there, very curious on what determines the distance you use between axles. Should they be as close as possible to increase turn radius? are there other factors that I am not aware of? Please get back to me, thank you so much.

Hey Caleb, so generally what you see is that on lower capacity trailers the wheelbase between the axles is 33 inches and above like 6k or so the wheelbase most commonly seen is 35 inches. This just works out the easiest and corresponds with how most modern trailer suspension is setup.

Hey Caleb, how did things go with setting the axle spacing on your trailer? It’d be great to hear if the 35-inch setup worked well with your suspension. Your update could make it easier for the next person working on a similar build.
