Recommended 7-Way Connector for a 2017 Cadillac XT5

Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 09/03/2024

Question:

I bought a vehicle hitch for my 2017 Cadillac XT5 from E trailer and want to have the installers add a 7 pin light package. I can always convert to 4 pin. What product do you recommend?

Welcome back Blake! We have a couple of different options to add a 7-way connector to your 2017 Cadillac XT5 depending on whether or not you have the factory tow package. If you do it's really simple all you need is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package item # C56326.

If you do not have the factory tow package you're going to need two separate parts because there isn't just one that'll give you a 7-way connector. The first part you need is the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter item # C59236. This harness will provide you with a 4-way connector. It's wired directly into your factory tail light harness.

The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Cadillac with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.

Here are some other parts you will need to tow a trailer with brakes:

Brake Controller - Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller item # RED44FR

Ball Mount - Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534

Hey Blake, how did the wiring setup go on your Cadillac XT5 with the Curt harness and the ETBC7 kit? Your update could make it easier for others adding a 7-way connector to the same vehicle.

@JerredH The hitch installed just fine and I decided not to install lighting wiring package as I am only using it for a bike rack and the cost was prohibitive.

@BlakeG That makes complete sense. Glad the hitch went on well.
