A proportional brake controller works pretty simply; the amount of power you hit the brakes on your 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTD with is the same intensity the controller will apply to your trailer brakes. It's a much smoother experience than you get with a time-delayed controller, which just has the same power output.

There's really no downside to a proportional controller, it's what most people use and definitely what I recommend.
