Question:
I am looking for some help getting electric brakes for my popup camper. It is a 1994 Jayco 1207. What details would I need to get to add these to this trailer? It would be a retrofit from surge brakes. Thanks!

Hello again, Dan. To add electric brakes to your Jayco pop up camper you will need a few things. You will need your electric brake assemblies, hub/drum assemblies, a 7-way trailer wiring harness, an emergency breakaway kit and an electric trailer brake controller for your tow vehicle.
I will need to know the weight capacity of your axle in order to recommend the correct brakes. What we see most commonly are the 3,500 lb brakes like part etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-35-SA. Please confirm your axle size so we can get you the right brakes and hubs. Aside from those, here are the parts I recommend:
- 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 6' Long # H20044
- Trailer Wiring Junction Box - 7 Color Coded Terminals - ABS # 3375601101
- Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger - Top Load # 20400
- Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195
Just remember that your tow vehicle will need to be equipped with a 7-way. If you don't already have one let me know the year, make and model of your vehicle I am happy to recommend a wiring harness. The article linked below will go over the process of adding electric brakes in detail. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions for me.
