What Does Tongue Weight Rating of Weight Distribution System Mean

Question:
Hello, I have a Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2inch Hitch - 5.5K GTW, 550 lbs TW with BXW4022 receiver. They can be adjusted from 350 to 550 pounds. How do you adjust the bars to have 350 pounds? 400 pounds? My Nissan Titan XD GVWR 8800 lb truck and a trailer with aluminum frame GVWR of 2700 pounds, tongue weight more or less 350 pounds My problem is that the trailer lifts off the ground when I go over the deck joints.

Hey Jean-Guy, so the Blue Ox Weight Distribution system part # BXW0556 that you have was designed to work on trailers that have a tongue weight range of up to 550 lbs. It doesn't actually have up to 550 lbs of support it can be adjusted to. You wouldn't want to attempt to adjust it up to a certain rating and instead you'd want to follow the instructions to provide the spring bar tension to allow the trailer to be towed as safely as possible.

Hey Jean-Guy, how did things go after you adjusted the spring bar tension on your Blue Ox SwayPro? Did it help keep your trailer steady when going over deck joints? Your update could make it easier for others working with lighter tongue weights.
