Is the RoadActive Suspension Worth Removing Top Overload Springs on a 2023 GMC Sierra 3500

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/19/2024

Question:

Believe my 2023 GMC Denali 3500HD 4 wheel drive diesel has over spring overloads factory installed. Looks like to install the Road Active Supension System that I need part RAS3611-chd. From the instructions I would need to remove my overloads to install and therefore reductions my weight capacity. Do I get more than a marginal increase in reducing sag, sway etc by addition the Road Actives. Is it worth the cost? Thanks

Thanks for reaching out, Kevin!

Since you have to remove upper overload springs to install the RoadActive Suspension # RAS3611-CHD on your 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD I don't recommend going that route. This kit (same as all other suspension kits) are only designed to support the suspension and won't increase the capacity so you'll essentially be crippling your weight rating (as you stated).

I personally recommend going with the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSR-203-40-2 because they install off to the side so you don't have to remove any of your OEM suspension, and these will help with up to 3,000 lbs just like the RAS kit does. The nice thing about the SumoSprings is that they don't require any adjustments - just install them and forget about them!

Hey Kevin, how did things turn out with the SumoSprings on your Sierra 3500HD? Did they give you the support you were hoping for without affecting your factory setup? Your update could make it easier for others deciding between these suspension options.
