Are LED Tail Light for RVs Under 80" Wide Flexible

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/26/2024

Question:

Is there any flex in these lights? I would like to add these to the rear bumper area of 2016 Jeep Cherokee to operator with the motorhome lights when flat towing. I do not want to use a diode kit as I want to keep these lights completely separated for the original light wiring. The bumper area is not completely flat, so I would like something that has the ability to flex a little. I suspect these are totally ridge, but you never know without asking. I am open to suggestions if you have some. Thanks, Byron

Hi Byron; the LED Tail Light for RVs Under 80" Wide # DG52435VP are rigid as you suspected. They have a polycarbonate lens and housing. None of our lights like this are designed to be flexible. If you really want to mount the extra lights then I would add some extra material like a plastic or foam behind them that can conform to the bumper while providing a flat surface to mount the lights.

My only other suggestion would be to go ahead and use a diode kit like the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. Ultimately, this is the best option for a flat tow setup.

Hey Byron, how did things go with mounting the LED tail lights on your Cherokee’s bumper? Did adding the foam or plastic backing give you the flat surface you needed? Your results could really help others trying to add separate lights for flat towing.
