Why Don't Trailer Brake Assemblies Have Swivel Fittings

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/24/2024

Question:

Boat trailer with Dexter/UFP disc brakes. Problem nipple between master cylinder and solenoid sheared due to age and constantly flexing as I fold the trailer tongue for storage. Issue I have to remove and spin the entire trailer tongue while removing the brake line from the solenoid to avoid kinking/spinning the brake line with the fitting. Question does anyone make a swivel fitting or union or even quick disconnect for the flexible brake line so it can be removed from the tongue assembly without having to remove and rotate the tongue? Thanks

Hey Dominick, so brake lines for trailer brakes have swiveling fittings and what they attach to normally doesn't. I wonder if your lines actually do swivel but maybe corrosion is stopping that from happening.

Hey Dominick, did you get a chance to check if the fittings on your brake lines would swivel once any corrosion was cleared? Knowing how that worked out could help others dealing with the same issue on folding trailer tongues.
