Replacement Axle for 1956 Dutton-Lainson Trailer

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/19/2024

Question:

I have used your trailer hub kits for years and now want to also use them on a 1956 Dutton-Lainson coil-spring-type trailer, with VERY strange spindles. I was planning on getting a new axle but, now that its torn down, I think I might be over-thinking it. To whom could I send photos / dimensions?

Hi Mark; it looks like you may have already sorted this out since you bought the # TRU59FR replacement spindle. Assuming this is a 2k axle that is the best option aside from replacement. You can still send me your pictures but based on the age and your description I'm 99% sure it is an old outdated spindle nothing would fit. If the axle appears to be in good shape by all means swap out the spindle, otherwise it is probably a good idea to replace it completely like you originally thought.

Hi Mark, how did things go with the replacement spindle on your Dutton-Lainson trailer? Did swapping it out solve the fit issue with those unusual spindles? Your update could make it easier for others working on older trailers like yours.
