Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/10/2024

Question:

Good morning, We keep running into issues with our brake controllers not being compatible with newer vehicles. Do you know of an option that can be used with usb ports?

Hey Ashley,

I'm not aware of anything that would plug into your vehicle's USB port, but something that serves a similar purpose would be the Curt Echo Brake Controller # C79DR. Instead of tying into factory wiring under the dash and potentially running into issues with those circuits, the Echo actually just plugs in-line with the 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle.

This makes it a super easy install and also allows you to keep the cab free of any controller boxes. You'll controller settings or the manual override with your smart phone.

I'm interested though to hear more about the issues you've been experiencing with other controllers. I've not really heard of general compatibility problems between new vehicles and brake controllers. Has it been the install difficulty or actual function during travel?

Hey Ashley, how did things go with the Curt Echo brake controller you were looking into? Did it help solve the compatibility issues you were having with newer vehicles? Your update could make it easier for others running into the same problem.
